James McCaffrey was an American actor and voice actor who gained prominence with his roles as Joe Astor / Michael Payton on the television series Viper (1994; 1996-1999), Jimmy Keefe on Rescue Me (2004-2011), and Captain Arthur O’Byrne / Jack Dale on New York Undercover (1994-1997). Prior to becoming an actor, James worked as a graphic designer, commercial art director, artist, and bartender at Gatsby’s Restaurant in Boston, Massachusetts.
His television appearances also included small parts in popular shows like S*x and the City (1998; 2001), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2000; 2003), The Big Easy (1997), The Glades (2011), Jessica Jones (2018), Revenge (2011-2012), Queens Supreme (2003), White Collar (2013), Blue Bloods (2011; 2022), Bull (2017), and Suits (2013-2018), etc.
In 1992, James co-founded his own theater company called The Workhouse Theatre in Tribeca, New York City.
